Your dictionary makes transcripts spell your product names, people and jargon the way you write them. It holds two kinds of entries, one dictionary per language:
  • Vocabulary words teach your transcriptions a word or a name they should recognize, such as Tumblr.
  • Replacement rules rewrite a word as it gets transcribed into the one you want, such as tumbler into Tumblr.
Both apply to every transcription in that language, from the API and the Vook web app alike. The dictionary supports English (en) and French (fr).

Before you start

Mint an API key (see Authentication) and export it:
The Python examples use the requests package (pip install requests).

1. Add a vocabulary word

Send the word and the language of the dictionary that holds it.
A successful request returns 200 with the entry:
Adding a word you already have returns the existing entry, so you can send your full list again safely.

2. Add a replacement rule

Send the word as it gets transcribed (source_word) and the word you want in its place (destination_word).
A successful request returns 200 with the rule:
A source word has one rule. Sending it again with another destination_word updates the rule, so you can safely repeat the call.

3. List your dictionary

List the vocabulary words or the replacement rules of one language. The vocabulary list includes starter words added when you set up your account.
The response is paginated:
List the replacement rules the same way, at GET /api/v1/dictionary/replacements:
Both lists take these query parameters:

4. Delete an entry

Delete a word or a rule by its id.
A successful request returns 204 with an empty body. Deleting an entry that is already gone succeeds too, so you can retry safely.

Errors

See Errors and limits for the error body and retry rules.
